.
This beautiful shingle-style bungalow is for sale. We'd like to find new owners who appreciate it's beautiful architectural details, it's historic design and it's solid craftsmanship.

The house, known as the HOWARD WINSLOW HOUSE, was built in 1910 in Deering Center, then a fast-growing suburb of Portland. It was designed by well-known Portland architect John Calvin Stevens, in partnership with his son, John Howard Stevens. (To our knowledge there are very few bungalows designed by John Calvin Stevens.)
.
Howard Winslow, president of the Deering-Winslow Lumber Co. on Commercial Street in Portland, sent out this postcard to clients and business associates in December 1910:

The house is a shingle-style bungalow with Colonial Revival elements. The interior woodwork is in classic Craftsman style with wainscoting throughout, built-in cabinets, linen storage and stained-glass windows. Owners still have the original building plans.
.
The house has a large living room, large kitchen with butler's pantry and a swing door to the dining room, as well as a small office or music room on the first floor. All the rooms on the first floor have wainscoting in its original form. Hardwood floors frame the rooms. The windows in all rooms are large and offer bright natural light througout the day. Upstairs are four bedrooms plus a linen room.
.
Read a detailed desription of the house in an article featured in the PORTLAND PRESS HERALD (see link on left).
